Arizona-based Jimmy Eat World are set to release their eight studio album, Damage, on June 11.

Frontman Jim Adkins explained that this time the recording process was different. Normally the record label “faxes us sheet music and we have to learn it,” he joked to KROQ’s Stryker in May. “With no label, we had to write our own sh** this time.”

The band ventured away from their typical Arizona rehearsal space to record the album entirely in Los Angeles at the home of producer and multi-instrumentalist Alain Johannes, who’s most widely known for his guitar and vocal work with Queens of the Stone Age.

Damage was described by Adkins to be an “adult break-up record.”  “Love songs are what make rock ‘n roll go around. It’s just sort me trying to take an honest look at what that might be in an older context. In a non-bubblegum kind of way,” explained Adkins in an interview. “It’s also kind of more about bettering ourselves in the process. It’s about focusing on making decision instead of just resolutions.”

The album’s first single, “I Will Steal You Back,” was released April 10, peaking at No 28 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.

Adkins said that looking at his “rough schedule for the foreseeable future,” Jimmy Eat World will be busy until the summer of 2014. And by looking at their tour schedule through October, he’s not lying.
